From First Call to Finished Work

1

Describe what changed

Which doors stick, where the cracks are and whether anything moved after the last long dry spell. That is usually enough to plan the right kind of visit.

2

Elevation survey at the house

Readings are taken across the floor to map the high and low areas, along with a look at the drainage, the trees and the outside of the slab or the crawl space.

3

Options and a written quote

Ask the provider to explain what was measured, what is causing it, the repair choices and the price before you approve work.

4

The work and what comes after

Supports go in, the lift is taken in stages with the measurements checked as it goes, and you are told what to expect from doors, trim and cosmetic cracks afterwards.

What the Measurements Actually Tell You

An elevation survey is a set of floor-height readings taken room by room and plotted as a map of the house. It converts "the kitchen feels low" into a number, and it shows whether one corner has dropped, whether the middle has heaved upward, or whether the whole house is simply on a gentle slope it was built with. That distinction changes the repair completely.

It also gives you a baseline. If you decide to wait and watch, a second survey next season shows whether the movement is still going or whether it has settled into the normal seasonal swing that every slab in Tarrant County goes through. That is often the most useful thing a first visit produces.

Before the Appointment

You do not need to prepare much. Clear access to the perimeter of the house and to the crawl-space hatch if you have one, and move anything stored tightly against interior walls where readings are taken. Please do not try to jack or shim any part of the structure yourself: raising a loaded house unevenly can crack plumbing, break brickwork and put people underneath it at real risk.

If you already have an engineer report, a previous repair invoice or old photos of the cracks, have them ready. Prior work in the same spot is genuinely useful information.

Read about the inspection itself, compare pressed concrete and steel piers, browse the full list of services, check the areas covered or go through the common questions.
